More info: I enjoyed painting the lion in this portrait, not only because big cats are incredible animals, but because it was the first time I'd attempted such a picture. I particularly enjoyed using different brush combinations to daub varying patterns and textures onto the canvas, in a multitude of different oranges, yellows and browns. The colours are exaggerated, yet not to the point of surrealism or garishness.
The original lion painting sold to the chairman of a company in London after it was exhibited in the Mead Gallery in Warwick.
